Pack 97 Hiking Program

The hiking program runs year round and consists of monthly hikes at interesting locations around the Charlotte area.

Most hikes are within an hour's drive although sometimes we venture farther afield and are about 2 to 4 miles long. They are appropriate for all ranks from Tiger to Webelos. All scouts, families and siblings of Pack 97 are welcome to participate.

Click here for complete details on the hiking program including a list of the medallions that are awarded.

Pack 97's 2015-2016 Hiking Schedule is now available. Our online calendar has also been updated with the dates and locations of all pack hikes.

Pack 97 Intro to Backpacking
The intro to backpacking program will run year around in coordination with the hiking program. The backpacking program will serve to prepare older Cub Scouts for high adventure programs traditionally found in Boy Scouts. It will allow experienced hikers to become familiar with backpacking and offers educational components focused on backpacking safety, equipment, trail and food preparation and leave no trace principles.
  • The program is restricted to Bear and Webelos scouts who have earned their 20 miler hiking award.
  • The backpacking program follows the same schedule as Pack 97's Pack 97's 2014-2015 Hiking Schedule. Check the pack website in early spring for announcements on the backpack campout.
  • The program flyer has details on the program including a list of tiers and awards.

Weed Warriors

On Saturday, Dec 5th from 2:00pm-5:00pm, Pack 97 will participate in a learning service project at Latta Plantation in Huntersville, NC.

All family members are invited to participate. Please wear Class B t-shirts over appropriate warm work clothes including shoes and gloves.

The Weed Warriors Service Learning Project will be provided by an Environmental Educator from Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department’s Division of Natural Resources. We will have a 1 hour learning program with 1 to 2 hours of service work. The program is designed to allow an opportunity to learn first-hand about one of the most pressing problems for our natural communities today – exotic invasive plants.

Please register on our events page so that we can have an approximate head count for the service project. Registration will close on December 1st.

Pack 97 actively participates in the SCOUTStrong PALA (Presidential Active Lifestyle Award) Challenge. This challenge is designed to motivate participants to be physically active on a regular basis by allowing them to participate in activities they enjoy, as well as improving their eating habits. Earning a PALA is definitely doable by anyone at any fitness level.

You can find more information about the program as well as sign up to join the challange and earn a PALA at the SCOUTStrong PALA homepage.

For instructions on setting up your SCOUTStrong account, please read this information document.
